Ghusl ki dua is the supplication recited when performing ghusl, the full bath required for purification in Islam. اللَّهُمَّ اغْسِلْنِيْ مِنَ الذُّنُوْبِ وَطَهِّرْنِيْ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِنَ التَّوَّابِيْنَ وَاجْعَلْنِيْ مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِيْنَ

Ghusl Ki Dua in English (Roman)
Allahummaghsilni minaz-zunubi wa tahhirni minal-khataya kama yunaqqath-thawbul-abyadu minad-danas. Allahummaj-‘alni minat-tawwabina waj-‘alni minal-mutatahhirin.

O Allah, wash me of my sins and purify me from my faults as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah, make me among those who repent, and make me among those who purify themselves.

अल्लाहुम्मग़्सिलनी मिनज़्ज़ुनूबि व तह्हिरनी मिनल ख़ताया कमा युनक़्क़स्सौबुल अब्यज़ु मिनद्दनस। अल्लाहुम्मज अलनी मिनत्तव्वाबीना वज अलनी मिनल मुततह्हिरीन।

Ghusl Ki Dua in Urdu – غسل کی دعا
اے اللہ! مجھے میرے گناہوں سے دھو دے اور مجھے میری خطاؤں سے اس طرح پاک کر دے جیسے سفید کپڑا میل سے صاف کیا جاتا ہے۔ اے اللہ! مجھے توبہ کرنے والوں میں سے بنا دے اور مجھے پاک رہنے والوں میں سے بنا دے۔
Dua After Ghusl (Sunnah)
After finishing the ghusl, the dua reported after wudu may also be recited (Sahih Muslim: 234; Jami at-Tirmidhi: 55):
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
Roman English: Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh. Allahummaj-‘alni minat-tawwabina waj-‘alni minal-mutatahhirin.
Translation: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, who has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. O Allah, make me among those who repent, and make me among those who purify themselves.

Ghusl Ki Niyat (Intention)
The intention is made in the heart: that you are performing ghusl to remove major impurity and become pure for worship. No words are required. If you wish to say it, you may say in your own language: “I intend to perform ghusl to purify myself for Allah.”
Ghusl Ke Faraiz (The Three Obligatory Acts)
In the Hanafi school, three things are fard in ghusl. If any of them is missed, the ghusl is not complete:
- Rinsing the mouth so that water reaches every part of it.
- Rinsing the nose so that water reaches the soft part inside.
- Washing the whole body so that no spot stays dry, including the roots of the hair, the navel, and the folds of the skin.
In the Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali schools, the obligations are the intention and washing the whole body; rinsing the mouth and nose are Sunnah. Follow the view of your own school.
Ghusl Ka Tarika (Sunnah Method of Ghusl)
Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) described how the Prophet ﷺ performed ghusl. (Sahih al-Bukhari: 248; Sahih Muslim: 316) The steps are:
- Make the intention, say Bismillah, and recite the ghusl ki dua.
- Wash both hands up to the wrists, three times.
- Wash the private parts and remove any impurity from the body.
- Perform wudu as for prayer. Washing the feet may be delayed to the end if you are standing in water.
- Pour water over the head three times, rubbing the fingers through the hair so the water reaches the roots.
- Wash the whole body, starting with the right side, then the left. Make sure water reaches every part, including under the arms, inside the navel, and between the toes.
- Wash the feet if you delayed them.
- After finishing, you may recite the dua given above.
Things to Avoid During Ghusl
- Do not face the qiblah while uncovered.
- Do not talk unnecessarily.
- Do not waste water. The Prophet ﷺ performed ghusl with about one sa’ (around three litres).
When Is Ghusl Fard (Required)?
- After sexual intercourse, whether or not there was ejaculation.
- After ejaculation for any reason, including a wet dream, for both men and women.
- After the end of menstruation (haiz).
- After the end of post-natal bleeding (nifas).
- For a person who has died, performed by others before burial.
When Is Ghusl Sunnah or Recommended?
- On Friday before Jumu’ah prayer. (Sahih al-Bukhari: 877)
- On the two Eids.
- When entering ihram for Hajj or Umrah.
- When accepting Islam.
- After washing a dead body.
Ghusl After Periods (Haiz Ke Baad Ghusl)
When menstruation ends, a woman performs ghusl in the same way as above. Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet ﷺ about it, and he told her to take water with lote leaves, purify well, pour water over the head and rub it so that it reaches the roots of the hair, then pour water over the body. (Sahih Muslim: 332) It is not necessary to undo braided hair as long as water reaches the roots. After the ghusl she may pray and fast again.

Is ghusl ki dua from hadith?
The ghusl ki dua given above is found in dua books and is widely recited, and its words are a sound supplication for forgiveness and purity. Its last part is from the dua after wudu in Sahih Muslim. The Sunnah for starting ghusl is Bismillah with the intention in the heart; the ghusl is valid whether or not any dua is recited.
Can I pray after ghusl without a separate wudu?
Yes. If you performed wudu as part of your ghusl, or simply washed the whole body with the intention of purification, you may pray without a new wudu, as long as nothing broke it afterwards.
Can I use soap or shampoo during ghusl?
Yes. What matters is that water reaches the whole body. Rinse off the soap fully so no spot remains covered.
Does ghusl have to be done in a particular order?
The order above is the Sunnah and is best. In the Hanafi school the ghusl is still valid if the whole body is washed and the mouth and nose are rinsed, whatever the order.
What if water is not available?
If water is not available, or using it would harm your health, tayammum takes the place of ghusl until water can be used.
